USA visitors

Earlier in March, my dad, Dolores, Marian and David all visited me in Copenhagen for a few days  of beautiful sunshine, exploring, and cafe hopping! Here we are (with Sam!) at a bodega in Norrebro, the area in Central Copenhagen where I live(they call it the Brooklyn of Copenhagen- Lots of young hipster couples pushing strollers, coffeshops, used bookstores, boutiques). Here, we are lounging in candlelight(as always) drinking cocktails and eating cheese. Beyond the window in the background is the huge, beautiful graveyard where Neils Bohr, H.C. Anderson, Soren Kierkegaard are all buried.  Around dusk that day we searched the graveyard to find the famous Bohr as Professor Carter lectured his very engaged audience about the play "Copenhagen",  Bohr and Heisenberg and the making of the atomic bomb.
Dad just couldn't get enough of Denmark, so he came back for a trip to the modern Louisiana Art Museum, in the rural suburbs right on the water about 30 minutes north of Copenhagen. The museum had lots of outdoor sculptures.  Dad's posing with some bizarre creations of artist Max Ernst .
Artsy shot by Ken. Again he takes on the role as camera instructor. ;D We both particularly enjoyed the exhibit of photographer Andreas Gursky.

One of my new favorite breakfast spots in Norrebro called the Laundromat Cafe.

:D

Stephanie, my roommate, and I went to the Royal Danish Ballet at the brand new national opera house. The Danes are very proud of this building - as they should be. It's magnificent, modern, and cost over 500 million US dollars to build. The funds to create it were donated by a Danish billionaire(wait.. there are billionaires in Denmark? )

Inside the opera house. The glass ball chandeliers are by the same artist who did the "My Rainbow Panorama" and the smoke room from the Aarhus Art museum. (Olafur Eliasson) He also made the waterfalls under the brooklyn bridge in NYC. New yorkers: look for them!
FINALLY some sunshine in Copenhagen. I was able to take my coat of for a few minutes to take this picture at Nyhavn, a touristy but beautiful strip along the canal with boats and the most gorgeous public restrooms I've ever seen(but actually, I could probably sleep in them)

SO HAPpY TO SEE Green.  For my week long "study tour" I traveled with my positive psychology class to Scotland. We visited a mental hospital in the countryside between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The 'study' tour included a tour of Glengoyne Distillery. mmm and two samples of 10- year old single malt scotch whiskey

My new prized possession: Forty year old scotch. 3750 pounds.... but it was worth it!! Thanks dad!
Bagpipe lessons in Glasgow
Coca-Cola is NOT the highest selling soda in Scotland(!?!?!) They opt for "Irn-bru", sickly sweat orange cola that tastes like liquid bubblegum..... YUM?
We hiked Arthur's Seat, a little mountain in the middle of Edinburgh. Gorgeous Views!! Had to have a photo shoot

so much <3
The Elephant House, a cafe in Edinburgh where J.K. Rowling spent most of her time writing Harry Potter on Napkins!

Kelsey comes to visit!! Wandering around in the early morning, a seemingly creepy man dressed as a mime approaches us in a drunken state. As it turns out, he wasn't creepy at all, but just wandering home after a late night of costume partying(they like dressing up here). Jon the mime was nice enough to give us a personal, n tour of the city, in full mime face. (that's the opera house behind them!)

The famous little mermaid statue. Our mime friend told us that some rebels took her head off a few years ago, but they were able to recover it! phew.
